The FBG Seed Bank first started at the Quimper Grange Food Bank Garden where Growers collected and dry stored seed from their most productive plants. These seeds are meant for growing or pollinating edible foods. Other seeds have been donated from WSU Seed Library, Shooting Star Farm, Saltwater Seeds, and PT Garden Center.
The FBG Seed Bank collection is available to FBG gardens, and any community gardens or individuals who donate products grown from the seeds to our local Food Banks. Saving healthy seed from your garden to return to the Seed Bank is highly encouraged! For more information, contact foodbankfarmandgardensjc@gmail.com.
A second source of seeds is the WSU Seed Library, which is open to the public. This library is housed at the WSU Extension office.
About the WSU Seed Library
Growers can learn the technique of saving seeds while working in the gardens. They can then save enough to use the following year in the sponsoring garden, start their own home library, or take extra seed to the WSU library. "Each spring, the [WSU] library will feature locally developed varieties that you can “borrow“. We’ll provided you with enough seed so that you can grow plants to eat and for seed saving." (Adapted from WSU JCMG website) - Karen Seabrook, WSU Seed Library Coordinator

Kick-started in 2019 with funding from (previously) Food Bank Farm & Gardens of Jefferson County, the Seed Library was adopted by Washington State University Master Gardener Program where it is now housed.
Saving locally grown seeds helps to preserve genetic diversity and helps promote strains that are adapted to local conditions.
