Gleaners

It’s us or the deer, take your pick...

Quimper Community Harvest (also known as PTGleaners)has been gleaning excess fruit from local trees since 2008. From July-October teams of volunteers pick fruit from backyard sources to give to schools, food banks, non-profits, and senior centers. Gleaners also help manage the Blue Heron Middle School orchard. In 2021 (our highest season) over 18,000 pounds of fruit were donated to 7 schools and other organizations.

QCH is organized by Seth Rolland, Suzanne Wilson, Kathy Darrow, Gabrielle Vanwert, Janice Pastor and Mary Hunt.

To volunteer for the 2023 season please sign up HERE to be notified about picking opportunities.  We now use Groups.io for our group emails. Come to one picking or come to many as your time allows and take home fruit for yourself.

Volunteers are needed to help organize, check trees, pick fruit (both on ladders and from the ground) and deliver fruit. Picking generally happens Tuesdays 3-5pm, and Saturday 10am -12 from July to October.  We meet at near Chetzemoka Park. Exact instructions are given out prior to each gleaning opportunity to the Gleaning mailing list.

Donate from your own garden

We keep track of over 160 trees in backyard orchards. If you have a plum, peach, fig, pear, asian pear, or apple tree that could be added to the list for yearly picking, please contact us at. ptgleaning@gmail.com.

QCH also maintains the Blue Heron Orchard.  https://sites.google.com/site/blueheronschoolorchard

and makes Apple Sauce for the schools.
