Planting Pot Repurposing

Growers Use Hundreds of Pots

The First Annual Fundraiser for FBFG in 2021 taught us many lessons. One of those was to start collecting pots early in the season, and getting them washed and sanitized before the next fundraiser was launched. A number of event customers asked if they could bring their used pots back to us for use in the future years. A wholehearted 'yes!' was our reply.

Since then, pots of every size and shape have been showing up outside the Quimper Grange Food Bank Garden gate. Our goal is to acquire enough pots to supply our annual fundraisers, with extra left over for the other food bank gardens to use during the growing seasons. Especially needed are 4- and 6-pack pony packs.

Each year we sanitize, by hand, the pots into which we plant our precious seedlings. Soil needs to be scrubbed out, then they get a bath in bleach water to sanitize and prevent viruses from being spread from garden to garden. Our stalwart crew is happy to do the cleaning and sanitizing. All we ask of the donors is to deliver no broken pots, and to remove the soil before delivery. We will gladly do the rest.

To make a donation to the pot recycling project, please email Barbara at barbaratusting97@gmail.com. She will let you know if we still have storage space. Thank you for thinking of us!
