When we heard from a reliable source (Mary H) that there was a petunia that tasted just like cherries, we just had to try to grow some. Mary bought a packet of infinitesimally tiny petunia seeds, and Mary Beth started them at home, transplanting to hanging pots at Quimper Grange Food Bank Garden.
Then, the moment of truth. The first gorgeous purple flower bloomed. JJ, Mary Beth and Barbara sacrificed themselves in the interest of science (and food) and sampled the flowers. After several seconds of chewing and rolling the petals over their collective tongues, the verdict: "It tastes like something," JJ said sagely. Edible, not eatable. But ever so lovely!
