Inside Brian's Garden

July 17, 2024

Dear BG Team -

The forecast for tomorrow is sunny with temps in the upper 60’s / low 70’s. If you are interested in helping with the planting, be sure to arrive by 9am tomorrow so we can beat the heat.

But, most importantly, tomorrow is GARLIC FEST! We will be harvesting all of our garlic and prepping it to dry in the chicken coop.

This Week’s Harvests …

Monday 7/15 evening harvest for the Brinnon Food Bank was supported by Beth, Diane, Kathy C and Molly, Lindsay and Amber. They harvested beets, baby carrots with greens, chard, kale, kohlrabi, onions, onion scapes, snap peas, snow peas, radishes, salad mix, stir fry mix, chives and herb bundles for a total of 44.25 pounds.

Thanks to July 11th Work Party Volunteers!

Mike mulched around plants with straw to help keep the moisture in the soil after watering. Denny planted lettuce, kohlrabi and mizuna starts and prepped soil in beds. Mark planted parsley and basil starts and weeded bindweed from the garden. Karl weeded the inside east perimeter of the fence and laid down black weed barrier to inhibit future growth. Amber planted chard, leek and mizuna starts, started getting irrigation lines in direct contact with the soil, pinning them in place and attached the tomatoes to the twine. Karl also built another squash trellis last week which he brought to the garden and set up.
